About

Hi. I'm Jake. I'm the one who is on the road. Well, not always, but that's the name.

I’m a culinary enthusiast and aspiring home cook based in Brussels, Belgium, but I'm originally from the United States, and have lived in Austin, Texas, Washington, D.C. and several places in Pennsylvania.

Professionally, I’m a vice president of content and community at Scoop News Group, overseeing StateScoop and EdScoop — two online news publications focused on state and local government and education, respectively.

Before I moved to Belgium (and before the COVID-19 pandemic), my daily job required me to travel pretty frequently. Though the job itself doesn’t focus on food, I found myself seeking out creative cuisine when I was on the road. Hence the name. Right, ok.

JW on the Road started as an Instagram account in May of 2017 (first post!), and is now the brand for all of my food experiences. A year or so later, I launched the first iteration of this site, and have now migrated, redesigned and restructured all of my content to the site you're on now.

I can't commit to any sort of regularity of posting, but hope that the things I'm posting are somewhat evergreen and relevant and worthwile regardless of whether or not they're recent.

So here at JWOnTheRoad.com, I’ll take you beyond the food you see on Instagram and into the experience. From my window seat on the airplane to my home kitchen, we’ll explore the world of food together.

Let’s hit the road.

PS: Want to collaborate on a post, concept or idea? I’m all ears. Reach out via the contact page and I’ll get back to you within 24 hours.
